DOSBox Pure is a fork of DOSBox, which aims to offer as comfortable a user experience as possible, free from headaches and complex setups. For a long time, this emulator has only been available as one of the many cores of RetroArch, but finally, thanks to this "Unleashed" version, it can be used as a standalone emulator.
Load your games the way you want
One of the biggest differences between DOSBox Pure and the original DOSBox is how easy it is to load games. First of all, the app can open any game inside a ZIP file without needing to unzip it. You can also load any ISO or CUE file (for CD images) or IMG/IMA/VHD/JRC/TC (for floppy disk or hard drive images). And, of course, the program supports the most common executable formats: EXE, BAT, and COM. To open any game, simply select it from the main menu or drag the file to the emulator window. It's that easy.
Comfortable gamepad controls
Another great feature of DOSBox Pure allows you to easily configure any controller connected to your PC, even PlayStation 4 or Xbox One controllers. The emulator not only has an integrated mapping tool, but it also allows you to use a virtual keyboard at any point, in case you need to type something. From the Settings, you can also configure keyboard shortcuts to make your gamepad experience even smoother.
Save states to save time
Almost all modern emulators have a save state tool, and DOSBox Pure is no exception. Thanks to this feature, you can save your game whenever you want, even if you haven't reached an actual save point in the game. It's important to test this feature within each game, as it should generally work, but there are some titles in which it might not. Thanks to save states, you can not only save time in some of the most frustrating parts of a video game, but you can stop playing whenever you want, not just when the game dictates.
